of the Pico Acid Test... the link was posted by an acquaintance elsewhere. I'm certainly no expert, but this is the earliest film I've ever seen of the band. The camera could be steadier, but fascinating...

This is an excellent film, especially under the circumstances.

Actually, there IS an earlier film, from the 12/18/65 Muir Beach acid test; unfortunately I don't think it's on youtube.
This is a snippet which may be from that - nice band closeups, plus a shot of the koolaid barrel getting spiked!

Any idea where to get the 12/18/65 footage?

Ken Kesey's site sells the video:

(It's "The Acid Test," naturally. Note that it also features "Jerry sweeping up after the show"...)

Have you invested in this or any of the other videos? I've been tempted to pick a few up for quite a few years. Maybe now's the time...

Anybody have a review on these DVDs?

I do not have the video - I should get it, though. Strange it's not on youtube. There's a description in the Taping Compendium. The 1/8/66 show is from the video soundtrack.

On the 3/19/66 ( my birthday , I turned 9 !) film do you know where the "Viola Lee" comes from, and is it form this early ? Great early Dead footage !

The Viola Lee is from 12/1/66. Paradoxically, it's probably a better accompaniment than the actual 3/19/66 Viola Lee, which is rather lame in comparison...granted, they'd just started playing it in January.

I thought it soumded a little too "developed' for the date , but I am glad to see this footage . I posted the 65 on on my FB. Note : my commet is aimed at my generally non Dead , Rock oriented friends .
Musta been drinking that Koolaide... Ancient history time . The newly Grateful Dead, formerly the Warlocks, doing Slim Harpo"s (via the Rolling Stones) "King Bee" . Note at 0:51 more "koolaide" being added to the barrel . 12/18/65 ! Before "Revolver", "Blonde on Blonde","Aftermath", and 9 months before the first Jefferson Airplane Album, and 15 months before thei first album .

seeing this made my day (and its only 130pm)

thanks to you and your acquaintance. while not the earliest known clip, it is far longer and of better quality.

Plus it features both Bear and Cassady dancing! What tops that?

Check out behind Phil at 11:00 to 11:05 and you can actually see the tape reel spinning that's taping the show

Funny that's it's behind the musicians - guess

Don't know the setup and stuff but that is way cool

This is a very historic video overall - awesome !!!!!
